A Tsovet SVT-QS40 quartz watch came into our workshop at The Shard, London Bridge completely non-running. After assessment, we found that the watch required a replacement movement rather than a simple battery change.
The correct replacement was a Swiss Ronda 513 quartz movement. We sourced the movement, fitted it in our workshop and returned the Tsovet to working order.
Tsovet is not a brand we had previously featured on the Ross Watch Repairs website, so this real repair also gives us a good opportunity to look at the history and design philosophy behind the brand.

The Fault: Tsovet Watch Not Working
The customer brought the watch in because it had stopped completely. With a quartz watch, a dead battery is often the first thing people suspect, but a non-running watch can also have an internal movement fault.
After inspection, this Tsovet needed more than a battery replacement. The original movement had to be replaced, so we sourced a compatible Ronda 513 and fitted it to the watch.
Ronda lists the 513 as part of its Powertech family of Swiss quartz movements, with an 11½-ligne movement size. You can see the manufacturer’s technical information on the official Ronda technical pages.

Why Replace the Movement Instead of Just the Battery?
When a quartz watch stops, fitting a battery without checking the movement can miss the real fault. If the movement itself has failed, a new battery will not restore reliable operation.
In cases like this, replacing the movement can be a practical way to keep the original watch, dial, hands, case and strap in use while renewing the component that actually drives the watch.
This is particularly useful for discontinued or less common watches where replacing the entire watch would mean losing a model the owner already likes.
For other movement-related faults, see our watch servicing and overhaul page and our watch part repairs service.
Ronda 513 Movement Supplied and Fitted at The Shard
The replacement movement was supplied and fitted at our workshop inside The Shard at London Bridge.
The repair involved removing the dial and hands from the old movement, transferring the required components to the new movement, checking alignment and function, then rebuilding the watch.
This is the sort of repair that demonstrates why independent watch repair can be useful for brands that may not have an obvious local service route. The important thing is identifying the correct movement and carrying out the transfer carefully.

A Short History of Tsovet Watches
Tsovet is an independent American watch brand associated with California. The brand was founded in 2008 and built its identity around watches influenced by industrial equipment, vintage gauges and aviation instrumentation.
That influence is still central to how Tsovet describes itself today. On its official About page, Tsovet says its designs are inspired by the durability, precision, styling and functionality of vintage industrial and avionic instruments.
The company became known for relatively clean, instrument-style dials, substantial cases and straightforward legibility. Depending on the model, Tsovet watches have used Swiss quartz movements as well as other movement types across different collections.
The watch in this repair reflects that practical design language: a simple dark dial, baton hour markers, straightforward three-hand layout and a leather strap.
What Model Is This Tsovet?
The dial on this watch is marked SVT-QS40 and 50 METERS. The caseback also carries its own identifying markings.
Rather than relying solely on model names, we always inspect the movement and case construction directly before ordering parts. That is especially important on less common brands, where different production runs can use different internal components.
Can Older or Less Common Watch Brands Still Be Repaired?
Often, yes.
A watch does not necessarily need to be from Rolex, Omega, TAG Heuer or another major luxury brand for a movement repair to be worthwhile. Many independent, fashion, design-led and discontinued watches use serviceable or replaceable Swiss and Japanese movements.
The key questions are:
- What movement is fitted?
- Is the original movement repairable?
- Is a compatible replacement still available?
- Can the original dial and hands be retained?
- Is the watch otherwise in good enough condition to justify the work?
When the answers line up, movement replacement can be a very sensible repair.
