The Difference Between Quartz and Automatic/Mechanical Watch Servicing

Watches may look similar on the outside, but the servicing process varies greatly depending on whether it’s a Quartz or Automatic/Mechanical movement. At Ross Watch Repairs, we tailor each service to your watch type using industry-leading tools, genuine parts, and Swiss precision.

Quartz Watch Servicing Steps

  1. Initial Inspection – Watch is opened, movement is assessed

  2. Movement Replacement – Brand-new movement fitted (more efficient than part-by-part repair)

  3. Component Removal – Hands, crown, and dial are detached

  4. Ultrasonic Cleaning – Case and bracelet cleaned to remove bacteria and dirt

  5. Reassembly – New movement is installed; hands, dial, and crown are realigned

  6. Gasket Inspection – Gaskets are replaced or lubricated for water resistance

  7. Swiss Battery Replacement – Fresh Renata battery installed

  8. Pressure Test – Watch is resealed and tested to ensure water resistance

  9. Final Checks – Functions like date, chronograph, and alarm are tested
